The Need for JusticeThrough our extensive research and market analysis, we discovered that the greatest cause of tragic disabilities is motor vehicle accidents. In Ontario alone, there are approximately 250,000 accidents each year, resulting in about 150,000 serious injuries and 800 deaths. We also researched the need for our products and services in other parts of Canada and the United States. We were surprised to learn that approximately 3.25 million civil lawsuits are filed each year in the U.S., many of which are initiated by people who have been unjustly denied benefits or compensation from an insurance company, and who will likely be forced into many years of financial hardship and emotional turmoil before they receive any money. Although not widely known, denials of legitimate insurance claims have grown to remarkable levels, and there are an increasing number of companies that are adopting this practice—known as Managed Denials. The process used by insurance companies to adjudicate claims, and which is supposed to help them in their efforts to combat fraudulent claims, is instead creating some very serious challenges for many people who have legitimate claims. In fact, with some companies, every person is treated as if their claim is fraudulent, without it being assessed with due diligence. According to a former insurance investigator, some companies work under the premise that 90% of all claims are fraudulent, when in fact, only 10% of claims fall into that category. Since insurance companies do not publicize any statistics regarding the number of claims they deny each year, and what becomes of them, most people are unaware of how widespread this problem has become. The reality is that hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of insurance claims are unjustly limited or denied each year in Canada and the United States.
